NGR Season 36 Ep 7: Popping on the Air For a Few delivers a laid-back, summery vibe on New Groovin Rhythms Radio (NGR Music), hosted by Jessica Edwards on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. This episode captures the essence of carefree summer nights with upbeat party music, personal storytelling, and a fun, relatable chat that keeps listeners engaged.

The host kicks things off with a warm welcome on a hot, sunny “hump day,”

sharing real-life updates about a major life transition: moving from a camper to a full house, juggling multiple jobs (including a new delivery driver gig that gets them out in the fresh air), and navigating the chaos of new routines, bills, and settling in. Amid the excitement and exhaustion, the tone stays positive and conversational, making listeners feel like they’re hanging out with a friend.

A big chunk of the episode revolves around the sudden arrival of cicadas in the area

—those noisy, flying bugs that emerge en masse every few years.

The host describes them vividly:

huge, gross, harmless but everywhere, landing on cars, people, and even scaring kids (like a 4-year-old with one in her hair or a teen feeling “attacked”). They contrast the preference for open windows and hot weather over air conditioning, invite call-ins to share cicada stories from other states, and note how the bugs arrived later in their region compared to the south. It’s a quirky, timely topic that adds humor and seasonality to the broadcast.

The real highlight is the music selection

—curated for “summertime vibes” and party energy.

The episode features an array of indie tracks designed to get listeners grooving:

Todd Barrow – “My Girl Crush”
BlackLight – “Welcome to the Party”
Sweet Lily Love – “10BASE-T”
Hardcoaler ft. Julie Hall of Norway – “Dream On”
The Baron – “Put It in Motion”
¥GhoStBoi¥ – “GoOd mOrNiNg”
Common Celestials – “Alive”
Xadrian Ferrara – “Anesthetic”
Krystal Brown – “Out of the Shadows”
Audio Space Unit – “Don’t Get in My Way”

Played in smooth sets with casual transitions and shout-outs, the playlist keeps the energy high while the host dips in with brief comments, thanks to listeners, and encouragement to vibe along.

Overall, this episode NGR Season 36 Ep 7 is a perfect slice of independent radio:

authentic, unpolished, and community-focused.

Whether you’re dealing with summer bugs, new beginnings, or just need some feel-good tunes, “Popping on the Air For a Few” brings the heat with personality-driven talk and fresh indie sounds from emerging artists.

Tune in for the laughs, the relatability, and the playlist that screams summer party

  1. It is so good to hear that you are getting settled in and getting a new routine. I am not excited for the cicadas to make their way across Lake Michigan. Apparently, people like to eat cicadas in other countries. I would like to be a delivery driver, probably for a car parts store. There is so much good music on this episode.

    1. The cicadas are EVERYWHERE now. They have gotten into my work.. one randomly flew off a customer today and made the buzz noise while flying away. Neither of us realized that it was there, and it made both of us jump! I was delivery driving today and there was suddenly one in my car. I was super surprised but luckily got it outside pretty quickly. That’s the second one in my car so far. You can’t drive with the windows or sunroof down right now and I’m constantly hitting them with my car while I’m driving. They make a noise when they hit. My windshield/ car is very dirty. I have actually delivered parts for Napa a couple of times. So far it has been store to store transfers.

      1. I would literally scream if one flew in my car while driving. I had a bee fly in, and heard a story about a snake crawling in some guy’s firewall. I would of crashed my car for sure.

        1. haha yeah I found a 4th dead in my back window today. I can’t believe so many have been getting in! I’ve been keeping the windows closed and the AC on for the most part.
